Showcasing RFID-enabled digital ID solution at Pharmapack 2025

Turck Vilant Systems joins Avery Dennison partnership to showcase RFID-enabled digital ID solution for prefilled syringe traceability at Pharmapack 2025

Avery Dennison has announced its plans for Pharmapack 2025, which includes showcasing a groundbreaking RFID (radio frequency identification) pre-filled syringe (PFS) authentication solution supported by Turck Vilant Systems RFID System.

Branded as BD iDFill™ Individual Prefillable Syringe Identification, the new traceability solution is created by Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) in collaboration with Avery Dennison. RFID tags are embedded into the rigid needle shield of the syringe, forming an intrinsic part of the product. While allowing the fundamental design of the syringe barrel to remain unchanged, the smart needle shield gives a digital identity to the PFS. The integrated RFID carries the container’s unique identifier (CUID) that enables unit level traceability through the entire life cycle of the PFS. The unique serial number can also facilitate authentication of a PFS at the point of care.

During the Pharmapack event from January 22-23 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, Avery Dennison will host authentication demonstrations at its booth (F68, hall H7.2) in partnership with Turck Vilant Systems, whose software applications enable the reliable identification of syringes.

“As passionate RFID enthusiasts and experienced solution providers, we are pleased to see this technology making its way into the healthcare industry. The transformative power of RFID lies in its ability to uniquely identify individual items, moving beyond traditional batch monitoring.

Our industrial customers already save time and reduce costs with RFID adoption, and we foresee a similar trajectory benefiting pharmaceutical companies in the near future. We are particularly excited to join this journey alongside Avery Dennison and Becton, Dickinson and Company,” says Heikki Haavisto, Managing Director at Turck Vilant Systems.

Barbara Van Rymenam, senior director of healthcare at Avery Dennison Smartrac, adds: “By tracing individual units, manufacturers can mitigate risk related to mix ups, and use advanced analytics to optimize the manufacturing process. The solution is designed to meet stringent industry requirements, while enhancing operational efficiency. We look forward to joining our partners at Pharmapack to demonstrate the extraordinary capabilities of this innovation.”

In addition to these solutions, Avery Dennison will also showcase its pharmaceutical labeling materials portfolio during Pharmapack. From cold chain labels to tamper-evident and RFID-enabled solutions, these products are designed to address the most critical needs of the pharmaceutical industry. Visitors can explore how these high-performing materials deliver the reliability, transparency and operational efficiency needed to protect patients and optimize supply chains.
