Circular Economy in Focus
Old Exhibition Walls Repurposed as Holiday Gifts
For a company aiming to reduce its clients’ environmental impact through technology, it would be hypocritical to give mass-produced trinkets as corporate gifts. Salla Axelin, the entrepreneur behind Sallan Paja, repurposed our old exhibition walls into pouches. These pouches contain a holiday present for some of our clients and can be reused in their everyday lives.
At trade shows, companies do everything they can to ensure that customers can easily find them. “An easy way for us to showcase our brand is by hanging fabric that aligns with our branding on the walls—but the size of the walls varies from one trade show to another, so we end up with a new, oversized wall hanging after each event,” says Jessica Säilä, Head of Marketing at Turck Vilant Systems. “When Salla Axelin told me about her idea to repurpose the sheets into pouches, I knew right away that this was the perfect business gift for us.”
Our company provides RFID tracking systems designed to prevent errors and report in real-time the location of an item or shipment. “In practice, we solve the everyday problems of industrial companies that arise from human errors, such as when a pallet is loaded onto the wrong vehicle and ends up in Rovaniemi instead of Vaasa,” says the company’s MD, Heikki Haavisto.
“The idea of reducing waste is ingrained in our company’s DNA, so cheap corporate gifts ordered from overseas don’t align with our values. In contrast, repurposing exhibition walls fits our story perfectly. We’ve received particularly positive feedback from Sweden, where customers are very interested in environmental and circular economy themes. Several clients have even asked us to include an environmental calculation in our ROI calculations,” Haavisto continues.
